5 Signs Your Business Has Outgrown Its Current Internet

Slow file transfers, unstable video calls, saturated uploads and a single point of failure are all signals that connectivity is now limiting the operation.

Most businesses keep the same Internet service for years after the way they work has changed. Cloud applications, video meetings, camera systems and card payments all arrived gradually, and the circuit underneath them never changed.

The first sign is upload strain. Consumer-grade services are built for downloading. When your team uploads files, backs up to the cloud or streams camera footage offsite, an asymmetric connection becomes the bottleneck long before the download speed does.

The second sign is call and meeting quality. Choppy audio and frozen video are usually not the meeting platform. They are jitter and packet loss on a link that has no prioritisation for real-time traffic.

The third sign is contention at predictable times. If performance drops every weekday morning, the circuit is shared and saturated rather than slow.

The fourth sign is that one failure stops the business. If there is no second path and no automatic failover, the entire operation depends on a single provider's uptime.

The fifth sign is that nobody knows when it breaks until a customer says so. A managed connection reports its own problems; an unmanaged one leaves you guessing.

None of these on their own justifies a change. Together they usually mean the connectivity design should be revisited around how the business actually operates, not around a speed number.
